The Committee Reports Amendment

20260429-2 \\ ??? words \\ Passed \\ No summary

So, one thing I've noticed is that a lot of important government work is being done in separate committees or teams, and I feel legislation is needed to increase transparency on what they're doing and have a clear process on how to weed out or restructure committees that aren't doing anything. Special thanks to our president u/Bob-the15th and u/SomWanOnTheInternet for reviewing it, and for everyone in the polls channel on the discord who expressed support.
Now, onward:
Committee Reports Amendment

  1. For the purposes of this amendment, a committee will be defined as any team or task force formed or connected to the r/TeenGovernment government to serve a purpose for the public. Examples include the development team for the economy and the urban planning committee.
  2. Committees as defined in section 1 will have to submit regular reports to Council (via the Press Minister) and in a post on the subreddit once a week on what they have done and/or progress they have made during that timeframe.
  3. If a committee fails to submit a report without a valid reason sent to Council via the press minister in writing, or if Council rejects the reason sent by the committee by simple majority vote, Council can vote to give the committee a warning, with a simple majority. If two or more warnings are given to a committee during that month, Council can move to take control of the committee.
  4. If reports show concerning levels of inactivity, that is also grounds for Council to move to take control of a committee.
  5. If the Ombudsman and/or more than 2 citizens ask that Council move to take control of a committee, then Council must vote on whether to take control of said committee.
  6. When Council votes by simple majority to take control of a committee, they have the authority to change membership, structure, or close the committee entirely. The period of Council’s control over a committee will be 96 hours, and can be renewed or terminated early with a simple majority vote.
  7. This amendment will come into effect on passage.
